      Manufacturer Info

      Ramsey Winch

Claude C. Ramsey and his brother, Rayburn, originally founded Ramsey Winch Company as Ramsey Brothers Tool and Die in July 1944, at 1500 East 6th Street, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The company manufactured aircraft parts, tools and dies for Douglas Aircraft Company.

In 1945, Claude Ramsey, realizing the need for a front-mounted winch for passenger cars and pickups, designed a crankshaft-operated winch (Model 101) to pull vehicles out of mud and snow. Demand for the Ramsey Winch increased to the point that the name of the company was changed to Ramsey Brothers Winch Manufacturing Company in 1947. In 1949, a new 50 x 100 building was built, and in 1950, the company changed its name to Ramsey Winch Company when Claude Ramsey bought out his brother s share of the company. On December 22, 1959, the company was incorporated into Ramsey Winch Company, Inc.

On December 19, 1970, Claude C. Ramsey was killed in a car accident, leaving the company stock in trust for his wife, daughter, and son. The Board of Directors elected his son, William W. Ramsey, as Chairman of the Board and President in January 1971. The ownership remained the same until December 19, 1978, when the company bought the shares of Claude s wife and daughter, making William W. Ramsey sole owner.

Under the leadership of Mr. Ramsey, the concept of innovation has been extended beyond product features and materials, introducing new management techniques complementing top management with delegated responsibility to the supervisory and manager level resulting in increased production efficiency while maintaining strict quality control standards. Marketing efforts were reorganized and distributor relationships strengthened. Financial management and controls were implemented to provide a sound financial base for current operations and for future expansion or acquisitions.

In addition, new manufacturing technology was adopted as rapidly as possible, computer controlled machining centers hold down manufacturing costs while assuring component uniformity and high precision, and the vital factors of human craftsmanship, judgment, team management, and experience were teamed with advanced technology. Data processing systems were placed throughout the organization, from marketing and manufacturing to total management information systems.

In 1980, the company occupied its new 132,000 square foot plant and office complex, commemorating the firm s 35th anniversary with the dedication of the new facility to its founder, Claude Ramsey. The facility is one of the most advanced winch factories in the world, having unique features designed into every phase of design, production, assembly and shipping.
